Luisa and I are in the kitchen preparing dinner. Zeca is hanging on to my pant leg, begging for food. We hear beeping from the living room, the sounds of the buttons on the cordless phone. I enter the living room and find Miguel sitting on the couch with the phone in his hand.
Me: Miguel, what are you doing?
Miguel: I'm going to call 911.
Me: If you call 911 and the police come to the house and there is no emergency, you will get into a lot of trouble.
Miguel: When the police come to arrest you, do they already know which jail they are going to take you to?
Me: Honey, the police don't usually take kids to jail.
Miguel: So, they would probably just take me to juvy?
Who is this kid hanging out with?

I wonder if Joel told him about it?
The Juvenile Detention Center (JDC), 510 Park Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN, only has an 87-resident capacity. I'm not sure what the Hennepin County violent crime rate is among juveniles, but odds are they need the bed space for those accused of things slightly above "misuse of 911" in the criminal food chain. But if he's curious, I'm sure you could point it out to him the next time you're in the neighborhood.
Interestingly, the Juvenile Detention Center is also where the second parent adoption hearings take place. So, he has actually been there twice...once for his adoption and once for Zeca's.
and for luca's and for stella's and for georgia's and for galen's, right? so miguel lives and breathes juvie.
and emptyman, i gotta tell ya, you sound pretty high and mighty in these recent emails. is that intentional, recreational or accidental?
Geez, I can't believe I forgot all of the other times we have been there! I think we missed a couple of the adoptions though I can't remember which ones. Isn't that terrible? I do remember Luca's very clearly but I think we were out of town for Georgia's.
